- access is not required for program operation.

- You have three choices:

- Service, or another local internet service provider)

- Notes on Uninstallation:
- ------------------------
-
- - Windows 3.1x -

- You will notice an icon in the Multicom program group to uninstall
- Growing Good Roses. We included this feature to make the
- uninstallation process easier should you wish to remove the program
- from your hard drive. Running this Uninstall program is all you need to
- do to remove the program from your hard drive.
-
- - Windows 95 -
-
- Go to the Start Menu and select Settings --> Control Panel -->
- Add/Remove Programs. In the dialog box that appears, select Growing
- Good Roses 1.0 from the list of installed programs and click on the
- Add/Remove button. This will completely uninstall the program from
- your hard drive. It is NOT recommended that you merely drag the folder
- containing Growing Good Roses to the Recycle Bin. This is true for
- most programs under Windows 95.
-
- -------------
- ***WARNING***
- -------------
- If you reinstall Growing Good Roses over an existing version everything
- in that directory will be overwritten. For instance, if at the time of
- installation you directed Growing Good Roses to install in your
- "Gardening" directory where you keep all your garden related programs
- and then you need to reinstall Growing Good Roses for some reason, you
- will be prompted to overwrite the directory "Gardening". If Growing
- Good Roses is the only thing in the Gardening directory, it is safe to
- overwrite it. If you have other programs in the same directory, DO NOT
- OVERWRITE the directory, use the uninstall program provided or call our
- technical support for further assistance.
-
-
- To avoid conflicts and for best performance:
- --------------------------------------------
-
- * Turn off Wallpaper and Screen Savers [Set to <None> in the Desktop
- control panel].
-
- * Make sure no other programs are running in the background while
- running Growing Good Roses.
-
-
- Trouble-shooting:
- --------------------------------------------
-
- Problem: Errors displaying files, reading the CD drive.
-
- Solution 1: Do not run any other applications simultaneously
- with Growing Good Roses. This includes any TSR's or Startup
- applications. (e.g. Microsoft Office or Bookshelf, Packard Bell
- Navigator) You can check your Windows Task List in Windows 3.1 by
- holding the Crtl-Esc keys down. Program manager should be the only
- task listed. If there are others, highlight them and select "End Task"
- for each of them. In Windows 95, there should be no other programs
- listed in the task bar at the bottom of the screen. If you're on a
- network, disconnect if possible. Network activity can decrease
- performance.
-
- Solution 2: Increase the size of Virtual Memory Swap File. Please
- refer to your Windows manual for instructions on this procedure. (We
- recommend a swap file of at lease 7 megabytes.)
-
- Energy saving monitors may cause errors in the program if the monitor
- powers down during use.
-
-
- General Protection Faults, Application freezes...
- ------------------------------------------------
-
- Aside from the above listed procedures, try switching your video card
- settings to 640x480 and 256 colors. If the problems still continue,
- contact the manufacturer of your video card and confirm that you have
- the most recent version of their Video Driver. (Video drivers are
- often updated several times a year and are usually available free of
- charge.)
-
- If Picture and Video Quality is Poor...
- ------------------------------------------------
- If the videos don't play, make sure QuickTime is installed. If it is,
- make sure you have the most current version. QuickTime installers are
- provided on the CD.
-
- - Windows 3.1x -
-
- Make sure you are using the correct video driver for your video card
- and not the Windows VGA driver. (Go to the Windows Setup in your Main
- group. If it says "VGA" next to Display, then you are using the wrong
- driver.) Do not try switching drivers unless you know what you are
- doing! It is safest to contact the manufacturer of your computer or
- video card to correct this problem.
-
- - Windows 95 -
-
- Open the Control Panels and double-click on the Display control panel.
- Click on the Settings tab and ensure that the Color Palette section is
- not set to 16 colors. If it is, click on the drop-down button and
- select the 256 colors selection and click OK. If 16 colors is your
- only option, you will need to contact your hardware manufacturer for
- Windows 95 drivers for your video card.
-
- Audio Problems
- --------------
-
- If you're not getting sound, make sure your speakers are turned on, the
- volume turned up and the cables are connected to the sound card.
-
- Installing the most current drivers for your sound card is recommended.
-
-
- QuickTime Error upon launch
- ---------------------------
-
- If you receive the message "Cannot find file QTVRW.QTC" upon launching
- Growing Great Roses, exit the program and locate the CD-ROM in program
- manager. Copy the QTVRW.QTC file on the root of the CD to your Windows
- System directory and restart windows.
-
-
- Online
- ------
-
- If you are receiving the message "Netscape is unable to locate the
- server: www.multicom.com\cdjg\roses. The server does not have a DNS
- entry." while using AT&T WorldNet(SM) Service, try launching the AT&T
- WorldNet(SM) Connection Manager first (Start--> Programs--> AT&T
- WorldNet Software 1.2--> Connect to AT&T WorldNet Service). Once you
- are connected select Launch Growing Good Roses Online from the Start
- menu.
-
-
- PRINTING
- --------
-
- This section contains information about printing the illustrations
- found in the book section of GROWING GOOD ROSES.
-
- These instructions assume that your computer is properly connected to
- a printer. Refer to your printer and computer manuals for information
- on properly connecting to your printer.
-
- Illustration file names are composed of four digits plus a three letter
- extension (i.e., xxyy.BMP). The four digits refer to the chapter and
- sub-chapter numbers the illustration appears in. For example, a file
- named 0102.BMP means this illustration file is found in Chapter 1,
- Sub-chapter 2.
